Maureen O'Connor's Experiences in Queens

Maureen O’Connor is the Director of Library Services for Queens Public Library, the highest circulating library in the U.S. While Maureen works in New York City, she assures us that she lives in a small community in New York State and can speak not only to serving a population that's nearly 50% foreign-born and includes children who speak 140 different languages but also to issues of serving rural areas and raising money.

Yolanda Cuesta and Cuesta MultiCultural Consulting specialize in helping libraries serve ethnic and culturally diverse communities. Prior to starting her own consulting business, Yolanda was Chief of Library Development Services and Ethnic Services Consultant for the California State Library and worked in public libraries in Texas and California. Yolanda will be our opening keynote speaker and will join us for the duration of the conference.

Congratulations - felicidades - for taking your valuable time to attend the conference and recognizing inclusiveness as a key strategic goal for our beautiful Ciolorado Libraries. Now the fun begins - taking the information and practices back to your libraries and implementing them! I know you will enjoy reading and learning from my book - Salsa, Soul, and Spirit: Leadership for a Multicultural age. At the end of each chapter are exercies you can use to practice the practices...I have many groups who are reading the book together and then doing the exercies together. It's fun and a great way to build your team and practice collaborative leadership! Thank you for all you do to enlighten and educate the good folks in Colorado.
